7th Grade English Language Arts

Course Description

Daily ELA HOMEWORK:  Accelerated Reader (AR) Reading Logs:
(Colorful AR folders are due every Monday morning)

Please read at least 20 pages or more a night in your AR book writing a paragraph or two describing a thoughtful reflection on what you read about.  It is important to practice writing a thoughtful reflection on what you read as it helps you as the reader practice and build comprehension skills.

What are comprehension skills?  When you read, comprehension skills build through the practice of predicting, inferring, drawing conclusions, and seeking answers to questions that arise.  After reading, stronger meaning is constructed through reviewing and rereading portions of the book or text.  When you are able to write or talk about what you read, you are practicing the importance of building stronger comprehension skills.

What should I write in my AR folder after reading?
Think about who is telling the story.
Explain where the setting is.
What is happening in the story?
Who are the characters?
What do you predict will happen next?
Does the story remind you of something familiar to you?
